Ancel Ray McChristian, 74, a former longtime resident of Pateros, passed away Friday, July 3, 1998, in the Harrison Memorial Hospital at Bremerton.
He was born on Sept. 13, 1923, the son of Charles and Hazel (Watkins) McChristian in Japton, Ark., where he attended school, after which he worked as a farm laborer.
Ancel entered the U.S. Army, into active duty, on May 15, 1943, until his honorable discharge on Jan. 19, 1946. While in active duty, as an amphibious engineer, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Bronze Service Arrowhead Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Presidential Citation.
Ancel had made his home in the Veterans Administration Complex in Retsil, Wash., for the past 20 years.
He is survived by his five sisters, Vina Gebbers Barber of Pateros, Vivian Scherrers of The Dalles, Ore., Velma Bryant of Pateros, Vicki Hull of Azwell, and Lexie Whiteman of Stockton, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two brothers.
Services are under the direction of Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
