    Rodney LaVerne “Oly” Oliphant, 55, of Richmond died Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at his home.
    Rodney was born on January 2, 1963 in Richmond to James Ralph and LaVerne (Eapmon) Oliphant. He married LaDonna L. Schmitz of Richmond on August 30, 1991. She survives of the home.
    Survivors include one son, Mick Oliphant of Richmond, one daughter, Dominique Oliphant of Richmond, one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie Lee and Velvet Oliphant of Lawson, MO, two sisters, Opal Fern Bretch of Overland Park, KS and Judith Ann Jackson of Independence, MO, one grandson, Zaiden Allen Oliphant, and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by two brothers, Merwyn Wade Oliphant and Bill Ralph Oliphant; one sister, Bonnie Jo Oliphant; and one infant granddaughter, Natalie Faith Oliphant.
    Rodney was raised and reared in Richmond, graduating in the class of 1981 from the Richmond High School. He was baptized in the First Baptist Church, Richmond.  Rodney was head of the maintenance department at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Richmond, where he has worked for the past 27 years.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He had a big heart, enjoyed telling stories and was known to put everyone else’s needs before himself, especially his family’s.   
    The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rodney LaVerne Oliphant memorial fund.
    Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery in Richmond.
