William H. McQuiston, a life long resident of this city and Perry township, who was stricken with paralysis Saturday morning, died at 8 o'clock Sunday night at his home, 1724 Hench Street. Surviving relatives include two brothers, Allen F. McCuiston, 120 Wells Street, and Benjamin McQuiston, 1818 Spy Run Ave. and one sister, Miss Jane McQuiston, an invalid, who made her home with him.

M'QUISTON'S DEATH

DETAILS OF HIS TRAGIC DEATH IN THE PHILIPPINES

"I suppose you have heard of the tragic death of poor Captain McQuiston. We have now received all the particulars direct from relatives and friends in the Phillipines. Captain McQuiston had been sick for weeks with dengue fever and was entirely alone at his out-of-the-way post; that is no officer was stationed there but himself. He had therefore none to take care of him and moreover no one to relieve him of his work, so he dragged himself about trying to attend to his duties and took enormous doses of quinine to subdue his fever. A wekk before his death he had not slept as the command was nightly expecting an attack by the natives. Now the dengue fever, a native fever, almost always produces delirium; the hospitals in Manila are filled with soldiers crazed with fever. Even Captain McCuiston's wonderful physique could no longer withstand this fever and overwork and suddenly his strngth gave out and he became insane. In his delirium he got his pistol and began shooting at the members of his own command and the men became panic stricken, and having no officer to control them and order them to make a concerted rush upon their insane captain and overposer him, they shot him in the face. It was awful. For hours he had no doctor and had to be carried miles and miles to the nearest post, where a doctor could be found. He died that night. The remains of Captain McQuiston were brought to the United States and several weeks ago were interred in the National Cemetery at Washington D.C.

Charles is buried in Section 1, in the cemetery. His stone is inscribed with "Gentle, Brave and True of Heart." His wife is buried alongside him.

Body of Franklin McQueston is brought here from British Columbia

Franklin McQuiston, 55 years old, left Fort Wayne thirty-five years ago to take up a claim in the west. He never wrote back home to friends or relatives, and nothing more was heard from him until five years later, when he visited his brother, Lieut. Charles McQuiston, who was stationed at Fort Sherman, Idaho. After leaving his brother at Fort Sheridan, he has not been seen or heard from by any of his relatives until a few days ago when a telegram was received from Kaslo, British Columbia, telling of his death.

McQuiston's body arrived in Fort Wayne Tuesday after being brought from British Columbia, a distance of two thousand miles. Death took place on April 2, and was due to a stroke of apoplexy.

Relatives of the deceased had long since given McQuiston up for dead. It has been said that no one can get so far away but that he will not meet somebody he knows, but this was not so in the case of the deceased. Years ago his brothers conducted a diligent search for him, but without success. Finally no further effort was given because it seemed useless. All hope of ever hearing from him again had been abandoned long ago.

BORN IN ALLEN COUNTY

McQuiston was born in Washington Township, the son of John and Eliza McQuiston. He secured his education in the schools of Fort Wayne. When a young man he left for the west, accompanied by Andy Thumb, Warren Archer and Ed Pfieffer. Thumb and Archer have since died. Pfieffer returned to Fort Wayne, and is still living here. The four young men were soon separated after reaching the west 35 years ago.

The deceased is survived by four brothers. Wilson, Telexico, Ca.; Edward L. Humanville, Mo.; Allen O. and Benjamin of this city. Funeral services Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the home of the brother, Benjamin McQuiston, 1803 Spy Run Ave. Rev. Arthur J. Folson Pastor of Plymouth Congregational Church officiating. Interment at Huntertown Cemetery.

Leona Bean McQuiston was unmarried.

Leona's leading cause of death was Bronchopneumonia; with secondary causes of Cerebral Vascular Accident and Generalized and Central Arterioschlerosis.
