HADLEY - Theodore Clapp McQueston, 92, of West Street, died Friday at the Center for Extended Care in Amherst.
Born Jan. 29, 1919, in Northampton, Ted was the son of the late Robert J. and Emma A. (Bell) McQueston Sr. He graduated from Hopkins Academy in 1936 and the Tilton School in 1937. He attended Massachusetts State College and graduated from Northampton Commercial College in 1940. After graduation he worked at the Watertown Arsenal.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945, attaining the rank of technical sergeant. Upon leaving the Army, he continued his career with the government as a civilian employed at Westover Air Force Base as a procurement agent.
Ted was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Hadley, where he was instrumental in the archiving of the church records. He was a member of the Hadley Historical Society for many years. He was also a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees.
Ted was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Alden; and his sisters, Helen, Dorothy and Ruth. He is survived by his nephews, Robert and his wife, Cindy McQueston, of Haydenville and James and his wife, Agatha McQueston, of Montpelier, Vt.; two grandnephews, two grandnieces and six great-grandnieces.
Calling hours for Ted will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Pease and Gay Funeral Home, 425 Prospect St., Northampton. The funeral will be Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at the Olde Hadley Cemetery.
