MARION: Paul E. McQuistion, age 85, of Marion, was welcomed into Heaven with open arms Monday evening, November 9, 2015, at Marion General Hospital after years of declining health.
On August 10, 1930, Paul was born in Waldo, Ohio, the first of eight children of the late Ray L. and Mary L. (Scott) McQuistion. Paul graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in the class of 1948.
Shortly following graduation, Paul enlisted to serve in the U.S.Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in the Panama Canal, and served from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the VFW Post 7201 and American Legion Post 584.
Upon his honorable discharge, Paul returned home to Marion, Ohio, where he married the love of his life, Lauranel M. Richards, on June 18, 1954. Together they shared over 61 wonderful years of marriage, and lovingly raised six children.
A dedicated worker, Paul worked as a Steel Worker.
A man of deep faith, Paul was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where he cared for the church and it's congregation any way he could. He drove the church van for many years, and helped with numerous work and witness trips for the church.
To say Paul had a love for automobiles was quite an understatement. Paul owned countless show cars over the years. He also was a member of American Motor Products.
Most important of all to Paul was his family. He will forever be remembered and cherished as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was an avid dog lover and could often be seen walking near the train station with his collie, Tessie.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Lauranel McQuistion of Marion; five children: Sheila (Steven) Long of Fontana, CA, Stanley McQuistion, Sheryl (Roger) Martin, Shelba (Terry) Sanderson, and Steven (Vicky) McQuistion, all four of Marion; a son-in-law, Randy Toombs; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Arthur (Betty) McQuistion of Doylestown, OH, Richard (Bonnie) McQuistion, Joe (Mary) McQuistion, Donald McQuistion, all three of Marion, Gerald (Wilma) McQuisition of Mansfield; two sisters: Juanita Ludwig of Marengo, and Ruth (Walter) Nelson of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Toombs.
His family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St. in Marion. Services honoring his life and giving glory to God will be held at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene (address below) on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve deWeber officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
