Marilyn McCuiston Hixson, 82, died on Wednesday morning, November 20, 2013 at a local health care facility.

Mrs. Hixson was born on April 4, 1931 along with her twin sister in Chattanooga.  She lived almost her entire life in the North Chattanooga area.  She retired from TVA Land Branch in 1993 after more than 32 years of service.  She previously worked at Railway Express Agency.  Mrs. Hixson attended Normal Park and Northside Jr. High Schools.   She graduated from Central High School in 1949 and attended McKenzie Business College.  Although she did not get to attend college right out of high school, she always stressed getting higher education to her children, both of whom have graduate degrees.  Mrs. Hixson graduated from Chattanooga State on the same day as her son.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Ray McCuiston, Sr. and Jesse Lee Reynolds McCuiston.

She is survived by her daughter, Tonya (Tony) Antonevich of Charleston, S.C.; by her son, Dr. Thomas Kim (Michelle) Hixson of Whitewater, Wi.; by her twin sister Carolyn (Bill) Crisp of East Ridge; by her brother, Don (Linda) McCuiston of Athens, Al.; by her sister-in-law Betty (Wayne) McCuiston and by her step-mother, Inez Stiers of Rossville. She also is survived by her grandchildren: Heather (Ryan) Meeks of Sequatchie, Tn.; Whitt Johnson of Soddy-Daisy; Ryan Hixson of Hixson, Sally Kate Hixson and Betsy Hixson of Whitewater, Wi.; Ashley (Terry) Dalton of Chattanooga.  In addition, she is survived by four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wants to extend their thanks to The Consulate and nurses Alice, Christie, and Ruth as well as Amedisys Hospice and nurse Vickie.
The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home chapel with Reverend LaVerle Coats officiating.  Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
