- Richard C. McQuiston, beloved husband, father, and Papaw, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024 in Wichita Falls.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 6 until 7 p.m. at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, in the Chapel of First Christian Church with Dr. Mark Bender officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Richard was born on September 2, 1933 in Riverton, Louisiana on a house boat to Nellie and Louis McQuiston. He grew up in Monroe, Louisiana. After High School, he joined the United States Navy where he served on the aircraft carrier, The USS Oriskany. While serving our country, he honorably served in the Korean War. He married Katherine Ester Donley on September 19, 1954 in California. Kay and Richard moved back to Louisiana upon his discharge in 1955. Richard was an active outdoor enthusiast and loved to hunt and fish. He moved his family to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1976 to serve as the Director of Facility Management at Bethania Hospital, which he held until his retirement in 1995.
Following his retirement, he and Kay traveled, and loved to volunteer at various local organizations. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, building several pieces of furniture and fixing anything that was broken.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Gradon McQuiston.
Richard is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 70 years, Katherine; daughters Ramona Jones and husband Matthew, and Susan Buckley and husband John; grandchildren, Jennifer Wilson Fischer, Jason Wilson, Meredith Buckley West and Ainslee Buckley; eight great-grandchildren, Allison and Jake Fischer, Nate, Eli, Avery and Cole Wilson, Calvin and Owen West; brothers, Fred McQuiston and wife Carole of Mandeville, La., and Eric Van McQuiston and wife Judy of Orange Park, Florida.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, First Christian Church of Wichita Falls, or any local charity of own choosing
