The investigation continues into a Feb. 15 homicide on New Hope Road in Joelton.
Authorities said Lawrence Edward McQuiston, 50, of Pickle Knight Road in Joelton, was fatally stabbed in the incident, while Amos Nathanael Campbell, 26, of New Hope Road in Joelton, was injured.
Assistant district attorney Bob Wilson said no arrests have been made.
“When the investigation is complete, we will then decide if it was self-defense or whether to take it to the grand jury,” he said.
Wilson said heis still waiting on the autopsy results and for additional interviews to be completed.
“That could take two to three months. I will not make a decision before I have all the facts,” he said.
The stabbing occurred in the pre-dawn hours at 1503 New Hope Rd.
According to a Cheatham County Sheriff’s Department report, Melba Ann Harris, 57, who lives at the home, told authorities that the three had been to a bar earlier and then came back to the home to play cards.
Harris and Campbell, according to the report, went to bed, while McQuiston left.
McQuiston came back to the home and busted the door open, and the two men began to fight, the report stated.
Harris told authorities that the two men had been in an argument earlier, but she didn’t think it would come to this.
The report stated that McQuiston was found deceased in a bedroom and a machete was lying on the floor with a lot of blood on it.
Campbell, according to the report, was found on the kitchen floor. He told authorites that he had been stabbed and he believed that McQuiston was dead.
Campbell was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.
