Ruth McCuistion
December 3, 1916 - December 13, 2012
Ruth McCuistion, 96, of Beaumont, died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on December 3, 1916, in Whistler, Alabama, and raised by Linda and Henry Hudgeons, and had been a longtime resident of the Beaumont Area.
Ruth was Salutatorian at South Park High School and went on to graduate from Lamar Junior College. She was married to Harvel B. McCuistion until he died. Ruth had been a member of Calder Baptist Church since 1948, where she was a member of the Deborah Sunday School Class. Ruth also taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of Alpha Ki Omega Sorority and PTA.
Ruth was a very loving mother that enjoyed her family. She loved her dogs especially Sugar Bear. Ruth was a wonderful cook and loved to dance.
Ruth is survived by her son, Jim McCuistion and his wife, Susan, of Houston; daughters, Linda Iles Vidal of Conroe and Wanda Phelan of Beaumont; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her half brother, Woodrow Busby; and half sister, Thula Felsher.
A graveside service for Ms. McCuistion will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will follow from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall at Calder Baptist Church, 1005 North 11th Street, Beaumont.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Karinthia Adams, who cared for her until the end and to the nurses at Baptist Hospital and Altus Hospice.
