- — Marilla J. McQuiston Pizer, Sandy Lake, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, Feb. 15, 2014, at home after an extended illness. She was 87.
Born March 24, 1926, in Coolspring Township, she was a daughter of Alfred M. and Ellen D. Reno King.
She was a graduate of Mercer High School.
For more than 26 years, along with Ann and Howard Patton, Marilla owned and operated The Lakeview Inn Restaurant, Stoneboro, beginning in 1960 and retiring in 1986. She was known for her charm and style at the restaurant and best known for her apple dumplings and her pies.
Mrs. Pizer was a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church, New Vernon Township, where in early years she taught Sunday school.
She enjoyed harness racing and for more than 20 years owned race horses and raced at Northfield and the Meadows racetracks.
She loved flowers and feeding and watching the birds.
Marilla enjoyed spending winters in Florida. She loved visiting Las Vegas and going shopping.
Most of all she loved her time with family, especially her grandchildren and her many friends. She loved and will be especially missed by “Precious” the dog, who looked forward to their visits and treats.
Her husband, Carl W. Pizer, whom she married Nov. 1, 1990, preceded her in death October 4, 2004.
Survivors include: a daughter Ellen J. Maloney and her husband Fred, Latrobe, Pa; a son Bruce L. McQuiston and his companion Amanda Campbell, Clarks Mills, and her daughters Kelsey, Kayla and Kristine; two grandsons Ted M. Maloney, McDonald, Pa.; and Adam M. Maloney, McMurray, Pa; a sister, Martha E. Steel, Mercer; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: a son, David H. McQuiston; a granddaughter, Amanda D. Jones; and two brothers, Melville “Mell” King and Norman King.
