Joe M. McQuistion, age 88 of Marion, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Marion General Hospital.
Joe was born February 26, 1936 in the family farmhouse in Mount Gilead, the son of Ray L. and Mary Louise (Scott) McQuistion. He was a graduate of the Mount Gilead High School.
One special day at a truck stop in Cardington, Joe met his future wife, Mary E. Clark. They were married shortly thereafter on July 26, 1957. Together they shared 64 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on March 17, 2022.
Joe had a strong work ethic and provided for his family by working as a repairman at the Whirlpool Corporation. He was a principled man with an unwavering moral compass and he passed along the importance of those values to his children and grandchildren. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Collecting sports memorabilia and cheering on the Michigan Wolverines was a favorite pastime along with flea markets and working in his yard. Above all it was his family that he devoted his life to the most and he cherished time spent with all of them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children: Gary McQuistion, Joetta McQuistion, and Loretta (Rick) Severt, all of Marion; three grandchildren: Amy (Nate) Szewczyk, Angie (Steve) Burge, and Tyler Severt; three great-grandchildren: Mia Szewczyk, and Danica and Dalton Burge; siblings: Ruth (Walt) Nelson and Gerald (Wilma) McQuistion; sisters-in-law: Betty and Bonnie McQuistion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Mary E. McQuistion and siblings: Paul (Lauranel) McQuistion, Juanita (Howard) Ludwig, Arthur, Richard and Donald McQuistion.
Visitation will be Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion from 4PM to 5:30PM; memorial service will follow there at 5:30 pm, with Pastor Rhonda Purtee officiating.
