Comer Jobe, longtime resident of Montgomery, Ala., and a native of Prentiss County, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in her daughter's home in Hogansville, Ga., after a prolonged illness. She was the daughter of Myrtle Adams Comer and William Henry Comer of Booneville. She attended Wheeler High School, and went on to MSCW and Ole Miss. Her career in the medical administration field led to the formation of Milco, a company of owned and leased nursing homes in the state of Alabama. Serving on the board of the Alabama Nursing Home Association and as its president in 1989, she worked to better the benefits of the elderly through government programs. She helped develop the certificate of need program that procured federal funding for hospitals, enabling them to purchase vital equipment. While living in Montgomery, she was very active in the Civitan Club. She enjoyed world travel, SEC football, Wynlakes Country Club, book club and bridge.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 8, at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Pace (Larry) of Cleveland and Debbie Jobe of Hogansville, Ga.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her nephew, Thomas Comer (Lori) of Booneville; a niece, Linda Comer Caldwell (Rick); and a nephew, John Comer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Thomas Henry Comer; and sister-in-law, Peggy Cox Comer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.
