    • John (Jack) Herert Bailey, January 6, 1926 - July 19, 2011

John (Jack) Herbert Bailey, age 85, passed away following complications of a stroke on July 19, 2011. His beloved wife, Diane, was at his bedside.

He was born January 6, 1926 in Lead, South Dakota to Harold Durward Bailey and Ann Marjorie Neville. He then spent the next twelve years being raised in Stibnite, Idaho where he learned to love the outdoors. He graduated from Huron High School in South Dakota in 1943. Shortly after graduation and because of his love of country, he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II serving as a Seaman Second Class. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. He then went on to college graduating with a degree in Mining Geology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1949. During his years at Cal he played three years of football, was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and met his sweetheart, Diane “Dee Dee” McCuistion.

Jack and Diane were married in San Gabriel, California on September 20, 1952. Following their conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1978, their marriage was sealed for time and eternity in the Oakland California Temple.

He worked as a Mining Engineer/Geologist for Anaconda Copper, Utah Construction & Mining, Morrison Knudsen, Molycorp and the last 18 years with Chevron Resources rising to Senior Vice President. He went on to work as a professional consultant for the next 14 years. He was loved by his fellow workers and was well known for his work with oil shale, coal, uranium, silver, gold, phosphates and in plant construction/operations.

Jack adored with his entire being his beloved wife of almost 59 years. He was a loving father and grandfather, always finding a way to serve them. He loved boating with his family at Lake Berryesa near Sonoma, California and would never miss a sporting event of his children. He was known for his ethics of honesty, hard work and integrity. When Jack Bailey gave his word, you could count on it getting done. He loved to serve others. He brought kindness, stability and comfort to all who knew him and was simply a force of goodness in mortality.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Pamela, James, David, Christopher, Suzanne, and foster son, Robert Salazar; 17 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard, Donald, Robert and sister, Betty.

Memorial services for Jack will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Willow Park Ward Chapel, 300 South 2210 West, Lehi. Interment and Graveside Services will be held at the Lehi City Cemetery.
