Barbara Jean McQuiston, 79
Barbara Jean McQuiston, 79, of 816 Carson St. passed away the morning of July 2, 2011, at Jameson Hospital.
She was born Jan. 6, 1932, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Frank and Esther Pauline Nicklas Gribben.
She was a 1950 graduate of New Castle High School, and prior to her marriage worked at G.C. Murphy Co. and Johnson Bronze Co.
She married Charles W. “Bill” McQuiston Sr. on April 11, 1953. He survives.
Barb was a loving and caring homemaker for her husband, children and grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, where she served as a eucharistic minister and was a member of the Ladies Guild, and bereavement meal committee.
She also was a volunteer at the Lawrence County Tourist Promotion Agency.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Renee DiGia and husband Dennis of New Castle, Jai Badger and husband Jeffery of Grove City, Barbara Flora and husband Richard of New Castle, and Judith LaMarco of Hummelstown, Pa.; a son, Charles W. “Bill” McQuiston Jr. and wife Victoria of New Castle; one sister, Alice Gribben of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Tomlinson and Colette Peterson.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, for St. Mary Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. by the Rev. Victor J. Molka Jr., pastor.
The family suggest memorials be given in her name to Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1000 S. Mercer St., New Castle 16101.

Charles W. Bill McQuiston, 79
Charles W. “Bill” McQuiston Sr., 79, of 816 Carson St., passed away peacefully of natural causes at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011.
Mr. McQuiston was born May 9, 1932, in New Wilmington, the son of Howard M. and Mildred C. Ruby McQuiston. A lifelong resident of New Castle, he graduated in 1950 from New Castle High School.
He retired from the Packard Electric Co., Warren, Ohio, where he was employed for 31 years as a tool and die maker. While working at Packard, he was a member of the International Union of Electrical Workers Local 717 of Warren.
He enjoyed the outdoors and served as a deputy commissioner with the Pennsylvania Game Commission for five years.
Bill was a member of the Croton United Methodist Church; the Mahoning New Castle Masonic Lodge No. 243, Free and Accepted Masons; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of New Castle; the Eintracht Singing Society; and the American Legion Perry S. Gaston Post 343, all of New Castle.
A decorated war veteran, he served with the Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 28, 1955, with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
His wife, the former Barbara Jean Gribben, whom he married April 11, 1953, passed away on July 2, 2011.
He is survived by his four daughters, Renee DiGia and her husband, Dennis, of New Castle, Jai Badger and her husband, Jeffrey, of Grove City, Barbara Flora and her husband, Richard, of New Castle and Judith LaMarco of Hummelstown, Pa.; his son, Charles W. “Bill” McQuiston Jr. of New Castle; two sisters, Joan Zuraski and her husband, Harry, of New Castle and Patricia Diana and her husband, Richard, of Kentucky; a brother, James McQuiston, and his wife, Nancy, of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ronald A. Wanless officiating.
Entombment will be in Graceland Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1000 S. Mercer St., No. 4, New Castle, Pa. 16101.
