Mildred Snell McCuistion
Mrs. Mildred Snell McCuistion, age 86, a former resident of Washington, N.C., died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Martin General Hospital in Williamston.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Pastor Scott Setzer.
Mrs. McCuistion was born in Beaufort County on May 7, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Thomas Snell and Carsie Whitaker Snell. Mrs. McCuistion grew up in Beaufort County and graduated valedictorian of Bath High School, Class of 1945. She also received the Medal of Honor for her work in S.C.A.
Mrs. McCuistion worked full time for more than 30 years with various businesses and physicians in Newport News, Va. She retired in 1992 with almost 20 years from Beaufort County Community College, making many friends both staff and students with her friendly attitude. Mrs. McCuistion was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, former church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She loved the adult choir and served as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. McCuistion was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henry McCuistion, on Dec. 1, 1998, and her son, Denny Harper, on Sept. 21, 2010.
