Barber McCuiston (1926 - 2015)

Barber G. McCuiston, 89, of Evansville passed away at 11:15 am, Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Evansville Protestant Home.
Barber was born February 14, 1926 in Calloway County, Kentucky the son of the late Russ and Eula (Marr) McCuiston. He was drafted at the age of 18 to serve his country in the South Pacific during WWII in the United States Navy. Barber was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal. He was honored to be aboard the first Honor Flight out of Evansville with fellow WWII veterans. Barber was determined to complete his education and received his high school diploma later in life. He was a member and 51 year Deacon at Cypress Baptist Church in Boonville. He faithfully and humbly served The Lord Jesus Christ for over 70 years. Barber had worked for Servel for 10 years and retired from Whirlpool in 1989 after 33 years of service. He served on the Board of Directors at Whirlpool Federal Credit Union (now Diamond Valley FCU). Barber was a member of Local 808 and served on their Executive Board. He enjoyed St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, University of Kentucky Basketball and camping. Barber loved to travel and had visited all 48 states in the continental United States. He was also an avid wood worker and gardener.
He is survived by children, Linda Roesch (David), B. Dale McCuiston (Debbie) and Debbie Spalding (Tom); sister, Betty Brinkley (Bill); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Matthew (Jes) Roesch and children, Aiden and Mason Roesch, Dane (Haley) Roesch and children, Ella and Laila Roesch, Zach (Heidi) Roesch and children, Michael and Jax Roesch, Adam (Anna) McCuiston and son, Keegan McCuiston, Drew (Elise) McCuiston and son, Parker McCuiston, Jessie Spalding, Nathan (Kara) Spalding and children, Riley and Ryder Spalding, Adam (Ashley) Spalding and children, Tucker and Parker Spalding.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 59 1/2 years, Dorothy Jean (Campbell) McCuiston in 2007, sisters, Modena Ross and Mary Watkins and brother, Charlie Brooks McCuiston.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Evansville Protestant Home and Gentiva Hospice and to Dr. Thomas Waits and Dr. William Hardesty for their kindness, compassion and superb care.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel -A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Brother A. Todd Jones and Pastor Terry Flowers officiating. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will perform full military rites.
Friends may call from 2 pm until 7 pm, Friday, May 15, 2015 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home and again from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm, Saturday.
