Mary Lou McQuiston, 76, formerly of Georgetown Road, Hadley (Deer Creek Township), passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, with her family by her side at the Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville, where she had been a resident.
She was born in Mercer on Dec. 15, 1937, a daughter of the late Jay E. and Irene (Williams) Fisher. On Valentines Day, Feb. 14, 1958, she married Edward L. McQuiston who became her partner for life, owning and operating McQuiston’s General Store and McQuiston Oil for many years.
Mary Lou had been self-employed as a hairdresser after having received her cosmetology license in 1968 until her retirement in the late 1990s.
She was a member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church, New Vernon Township, and a member of the Stoneboro Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 110. One of Mary Lou’s favorite things to do was to eat out at many of her favorite local restaurants. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Always able to strike up a conversation, she could often be found talking to most anyone, whether it be a friend or a stranger. She is remembered as a beautiful and loving person who always offered words of encouragement and was able to see the best in everyone.
She is survived by two sons, Gordon McQuiston of Meadville, and Daniel McQuiston and his fiancée, Shannon Harnett, of Greenville; two daughters, Ann Cusick and her husband, Joe, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Lisa Kessler of Meadville; a sister; Dianne Robert and her companion, Carl Verholek, of Hermitage; 11 grandchildren, Stevie Vaneck, Ryan and Russell Cusick, Taylor and Lizzy Kessler, Garrett Arnold, Riley Harnett, Rachel, Hanna, Danielle and Jay McQuiston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who preceded her in death on April 16, 2000; her son, Steven McQuiston; a brother, Neil Fisher; and a brother-in-law, Jim Roberts.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, with the Rev. Russell Hines officiating. The committal service and interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, New Vernon Township.
