      Frederick Fleming Obituary
Frederick Harold Fleming, age 81, of Canal Fulton, formerly of Wadsworth, and Gloucester, MA., passed away April 27, 2020. Born on October 13, 1938 in Wadsworth, the oldest son of the late Warren A. and Frances Fleming, Fred was a graduate of Wadsworth High School, Class of ’58. While attending business school in Massachusetts, Fred met his wife, Marjorie, when both worked at the Jordan Marsh department store in Peabody, they would marry in 1961 and start their family soon after.

Fred loved his family and the events that brought the family together. He spent time planning and executing projects for his house and his immaculate yard, and listening to jazz (and watching Lifetime movies).

Fred worked in computer programming from the early 1960’s, becoming a systems analyst. He worked for Converse, Gortons of Gloucester, B.F. Goodrich, Reiter Dairy and, ultimately, Diebold where he would spend close to 25 years until his retirement.

Entrepreneurial at heart, Fred and Marge, started the Touch of Blue clothing store in Wadsworth which they owned and operated from 1977 to 1986 and later he created F. H. Fleming and Sons Construction as a side business putting to use the passion for building he learned from his father-in-law.

Fred contributed time and talent to his community throughout his life including membership in the Order of DeMolay, Wadsworth Lodge 385 F&AM, an industrial parks board in Gloucester, the downtown merchants association and Chamber of Commerce in Wadsworth, and as a member and Chair of the Canal Fulton Parks and Recreation Board. He helped shape the Canalway Center, Canal Fulton Dog Park and Discovery Park.

In his last ten years, Fred fought cancer, the treatment of which included several surgeries and radiation which led to memory decline over the last couple of years. Ultimately, Covid-19 would end his life.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Marjorie, in 2009; his brother Richard Fleming and sister-in-law Nancy MacKay.

Survived by his brothers: William Fleming of Florida, Robert (Melodee) Fleming of Canton; Sisters-in-law: Pauline (Preston) Parker of Rockport, MA, Patricia Morphew of Melrose, MA.; children: Christy Ann (Mark) Schott of Canal Fulton, Glenn Richard (Becky) Fleming of Louisville, Daniel Warren Fleming of Canton Twp., and Jonathan Paul (Yamilet) Fleming of Uniontown; 9 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren (with another on the way). He is also survived by 3 nephews, 1 niece and many friends.

Per Fred’s wishes, no public services will take place.
