Vera Lorraine Wittenbrink, 88, of Manvel went to be with our Lord in Heaven on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Vera was born on May 6, 1928 in Chester, Illinois to parents Frederick “Fritz” and Alta (Stewart) Neihouse. She married the love of her life, Vernon “Buzz” Wittenbrink, on Novemeber 27, 1946 in Piggott, Arkansas and was happily married for forty-seven years until his passing in 1993. Vera was a nurse by trade and enjoyed volunteering for numerous community organizations. She enjoyed being outdoors and had a fondness for gardening. She also had other pastimes that included playing video games, watching game shows on television and shopping. Her family was most precious to her and she left them with many fond memories they will always cherish.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Buzz; her parents; brother Paul Neihause, sisters Arleen Aspley and Carole “Charlie” Colvis.
She is survived by her children: June “Button” Mauser of Shiloh, Illinois; Gayla “Joy” Wayman and husband Norman of Murphysboro, Illinois; Janet Joost of Manvel, Texas, Jefferi Adcock and husband Gregg of Manvel, Texas, Judi Miller and husband David of Dickinson, Texas, Robert “Chip” Wittenbrink and wife Christy who currently reside in Shanghai China; her sister Eileen Hasemeyer of Chester, Illinois; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many family members and friends. In lieu of a memorial service, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in her memory to the SPCA or the Humane Society.
