- POLAND — Mary Kathleen “Kathy” McQuiston Chearno passed peacefully, Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at Akron City Hospital, with her sisters at her side.
She was born Jan. 13, 1949, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late William E. and Mary Ruth Jordan McQuiston; she was a lifelong area resident.
Kathy graduated from Ursuline High School in 1967. She then graduated and received her license from the Lewis Weinberger School of Cosmetology.
She worked as a receptionist at the JCPenney salon for many years until her retirement in 2015.
Kathy married the love of her life, John R. Chearno, Aug. 7, 1971, at Sacred Heart of Mary Church. Sadly, he passed away, Oct. 27, 2002.
She was a longtime member of St. Angela Merici Parish and enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially her sisters traveling to Niagara Falls and shopping.
Kathy loved her dogs, Molly, Misty and Bootsie.
She was a very sweet and kind person who was loved by all.
Kathy leaves to cherish her memory, her brother, William E. (Tina) McQuiston III of Youngstown; and sisters, Maureen ( Alan) Russo and Janet ( Randy) McQuiston-Ellis, both of Lowellville.
Kathy also has several nieces and nephews, William (Katelyn), Sean (Andrea), Jessica (Stavros), Gina (Adam) and Joshua (Megan); great-nieces and great-nephews; and her brothers-in-law, Richard (Monica) and Anthony (Beverly) Chearno. Kathy leaves her good friend and longtime neighbor who was like family, Chris Granchay
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband and her dogs.
Private services were held at the Fox Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, celebrated by the Rev. Edward P. Noga.
Interment followed in Green Haven Memorial Gardens, where she was laid to rest next to John.
