MADISON/APPLETON/WAUTOMA-Dr. Robert A. Davies Sr., age 91, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Oakwood East. He was born on March 18, 1925, in Milwaukee, the son of Irvin and Alice (DaFoe) Davies. Robert met Jane Ewald in Bremerton, Wash. in 1944 at a Christmas Eve service while they were both in the Navy. They discovered they were both from Wisconsin and born on the same day, just a year apart. Robert and Jane corresponded with each other for a year, until they both came back home to Wisconsin. They were united in marriage on Dec. 21, 1947, in Waupaca. Robert received his bachelor's degree from UW-Milwaukee and doctorate degree from Marquette in Dentistry in 1952. He had a private practice in Wautoma for ten years and in Appleton for eight years. In 1970, he moved to Madison where he worked for the Department of Public Health, earned a master's degree from University of Minnesota, and eventually was the Dental Director for the State of Wisconsin. Robert enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing in Canada, golfing, bowling, and history.
