- Gertrude Arlean (McQuiston) Weaver, 101, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on May 24, 2023.
She was born on July 11, 1921, in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of Charles V. and Gertrude R. (Oesterle) Weaver. Arlean was a 1940 graduate of Kokomo High School. She won a contest in 1941 that led to Kokomo being deemed the "City of Firsts." Arlean loved to roller-skate and was a regular at the skating rink in her younger days. She also played guitar with a group on the Blue Monday Jamboree Program on WIOU in 1938.
During WWII, she welded lifeboats for the Marines and was a government artillery inspector. Arlean worked and retired from Delco Electronics after 36 years, where she was a member of the UAW 292 and Delco Alumni Club.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ron (Marcia) McQuiston, Karen Barnes, Rita (Mike) Moore; grandchildren, Denise McQuiston, Nick (Misti) McQuiston, Heather (Matt) Hubbard, Carol McQuiston, Jonathan Barnes, Carly (David) Brinkley, Casey (Jake) Hurlock; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Laciee, Donnie, Aubrie, Jenna, Jessina, Raziel, Saylor, Raelynn; sister, Rosalyn Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Michael McQuiston, Sarah Barnes; great-grandchild, Elias.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, Kokomo, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kokomo Humane Society. The family would like to thank Guardian Angels Hospice and Arlean's very special caregivers.
