Billy Gene Haynes, age 89, of Laurie, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. He was born September 25, 1926, in Cowgill, Missouri, a son of the late James Forrest and Mary M. (Coffman) Haynes.
On February 2, 1963, in Miami, Oklahoma, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Zelda Haynes.
Billy was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II.
He was employed with Kansas City Power and Light for thirty-four years until his retirement in 1983. Following his retirement, he and Zelda moved to the lake where he loved spending time on the water.
He was a 50 year Mason, a member of the Swope Park Masonic Lodge #617 in Kansas City, Missouri. While living at the lake, he was a member of the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie and the Ozark Lakers Square Dance Club.
Billy was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Zelda, he is survived by his son, Larry G. Haynes and wife Karen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Alesia Pittman and friend Charlie Armstrong of Richmond, Missouri; step-son, Steve Miller and wife Patsy of Jacksonville, Arkansas; step-daughter, Susan Moss and husband Bill of Camdenton, Missouri; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Paul of Stet, Missouri and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 5th, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel with Reverend Rick White officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
