- Betty Ann Phipps, 87, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Betty was born on Jan. 24, 1935, in Richmond, the daughter of Roy Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Oliphant) Schwensen. She was united in marriage to Andrew J. “A.J.” Phipps of Richmond on July 15, 1956; he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2010.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Phipps and Steven Phipps, both of Richmond; two daughters, April (Russ) Green and Julia “Julie” (Stacy) Grimm, both of Richmond; six grandchildren, Timothy M. Grimm, Andrew J. “Joe” Grimm, Joshua (Ashley) Green, Danielle Green (Jason Misenhelter), Darrell S. (Santana) Phipps, II, and Derek L. Phipps; nine great-grandchildren, Bishop Grimm, Gabriella Phipps, Gunner Green, Emma Green, Nora Misenhelter, Vincent Phipps, Taylor Phipps, Lucy Phipps, and Mason Phipps; and sister, Frances Bingham of Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant grandson, Richard Grimm; and daughter-in-law, Denise Phipps.
Betty was a lifelong Richmond resident, where she was reared and educated and graduated from the Richmond High School. She was a housewife and homemaker. Betty also worked outside of the home some, in the dietary department at both the Richmond and Lexington hospitals. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richmond and taught vacation bible school. Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also volunteered her time at the Salvation Army in Richmond.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond.
