- Ethel “Sue” Leggett Raines, 97, of Cordova, TN was ushered into Heaven’s gates to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on September 23, 2021.
She was born to the late Thomas and Ethel Leggett in Drew, Mississippi on May 12, 1924. She attended Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, where she played basketball. In 1944 she moved to Memphis and worked for the telephone company for over seven years.
In 1948 she was a Kappa Psi Sweetheart at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, where she met her future husband, Glenn Raines. In 1949, they were married in Memphis and were happily married almost 60 years.
She was known for her beauty and elegance, she loved to shop and as a homemaker enjoyed cooking, gardening and was very active in her church. She was member of Frayser Baptist Church for over 25 years where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and Bellevue Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she served in the Guest/Visitor Welcome Center. Her sweet Christian spirit was evident wherever she went and her smile could light up a room.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Raines, Sr and her eight siblings. Sue is survived by her three children, Glenn Raines, Jr(Debbie), Brenda Orr (Thom) and Cindy Thorson(Brian), her grandchildren, Kristy Sargent(Lee), Katie Daugherty, Laura Hartley (Todd), Lauren Buchanan, Lindy Poindexter; great-grandchildren, Riley, Parker and Finley Sargent, Brady and Hudson Daugherty, Zeke, Asher and Maren Hartley, Landen and Kamren Buchanan.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN. Services will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Bellevue Baptist Church, Pollard Chapel, 2000 Appling Road, Cordova, TN
