She was a graduate of Paris High School and received two bachelor degrees in music from C.I.A. College, now Texas Woman's University, in Denton. For several years prior to marriage, she taught music in East Paris school and at Paris Junior College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, former member of McCuistion Hospital Auxiliary, and former member of Paris Music Club.
