- Dolores Jean McQuiston (nee Chestnut), beloved wife of the late John W. McQuiston, passed on January 8, 2021 from complications of the Coronavirus.
Dolores was 93 years of age and is survived by her two sons, Edward M. McQuiston (Helen) and John D. McQuiston (Gail); her six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and her beloved sister, Sandra Ann Walsh (nee Chestnut). She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond S. Chestnut and Donald W. Chestnut.
Dolores was born on June 28, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Samuel B. and Jean C. (nee Moore) Chestnut. She was a graduate of Southern High School and was a long-time resident of the Southwest section of the city. In 2016, she moved to The Ware Presbyterian Village in Oxford, PA. Dolores was a member of the Southwestern United Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and had served on the board of deacons. She was a supporter of The Free Library of Philadelphia, an avid reader, and a lover of art. She enjoyed drives in the country, spending time with her family, loved camping and spent many summers vacationing with her family and friends.
During the latter years of the Second World War, Dolores had worked at The Philadelphia Naval Shipyard helping to ready vessels for combat duty. She also worked at the F. Weber Company where she met her husband. She later worked as an AT&T operator and a sales associate at the Gimbles and Strawbridge & Clothier Department Stores.
Mom will always be remembered for her warm smile, her loving ways, and the words of encouragement that she provided to us all. She will remain in our hearts forever. ♥
Due to the ongoing dangers associated with the Coronavirus, the McQuiston family has decided against services at this time. When it is safe for family and friends to gather again, a Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Dolores’ life.
