- Anna Katherine “Kate” Hunt, 95, of Galveston, went home to be with the Lord at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at her home. She was born August 18, 1919 in Galveston to Frank and Nellie F. (Scott) Graves. She married Charles D. Hunt on April 16, 1938 at Trinity Methodist Church Parsonage and he preceded her in death on Oct. 19. 2001.
Kate was a farm wife and school teacher. She taught elementary school for 22 years and was a favorite teacher to many students. She graduated from Galveston High School in 1937. She then went on to Butler University where she earned her Bachelors Degree in 1962, and her Master’s degree in Education in 1968. She was a member of the Galveston United Methodist Church, the Cass County Historical Society, 4H Boosters Extension Homemakers Club, Cass County Retired Teachers Association, the Indiana State Retired Teacher’s Association, Farm Bureau, the American Legion Aux., Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Red Hat Society.
She made the best cookies ever. She won an award at the State Fair for them. She also enjoyed traveling, watching Pacer and I.U. Basketball and going to her great grandkids’ ballgames.
She is survived by two daughters, Cecelia (John) Francis, Galveston; Kathy (Jim) Gaddy, Missouri, four grandchildren, Nicci (David) Hicks, Galveston; Jenny (Bart) Hensley, Walton; Angie Francis, Galveston; and Tony Francis, Colorado; six great grandchildren, three foster grandchildren and several foster great grandchildren. Special cousins, Donna Jean Scott and Cleo and Bev Metcalf, also survived her. Kate was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles and two sons, Dale Eller Hunt and William H. Hunt.
A celebration of Kate’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 26th at Galveston United Methodist Church, 515 S. Maple St. Galveston with Pastor Roy E. Ice officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 – 6 p.m. Sunday January 25th at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Jackson Twp. Friendly Farmers 4H Club or the Jenny Lee Missionary Fund at Galveston United Methodist Church. Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston assisted the family with arrangements.
