Todd Richard McElfresh, 50, Kokomo, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 26, 1963, in Kokomo, the son of Wayne R. and Mary Rosalene (Shaffer) McElfresh.
Todd was a 1982 graduate of Kokomo High School and was a drummer in the KHS Band. He was on the KHS Swim Team and was a K-Club member. He was an outstanding swimmer who began swimming competitively when he was eight years old and continued through high school.
He was a licensed journeyman plumber and a member of Local 440 Plumbers and Pipefitters out of Indianapolis. In recent years, he assisted his father in the Mary-Mac Caramel Corn business.
Todd attended the First Church of God. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching the Duke Blue Devils with his mother and was also a fan of Jeff Gordon of NASCAR fame. He was especially fond of golden retrievers.
He is survived by one son, Joseph McElfresh (Anne) of Charlestown, IN; his father, Wayne R. McElfresh of Kokomo; one sister, Polly A. Amundson (A. Peter) of Westfield; two nephews, Austin and Blake Amundson, of Westfield; two uncles, Leland McElfresh (Velma) and Carl McElfresh and his significant other, Chris Ehman; one aunt, Helen Shaffer; several cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mark and Mary McElfresh and Carl and Edna Shaffer. He was also preceded in death by his mother who died July 22, 2014.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2014, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, with Pastor B.J. Siefert officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kokomo Humane Society Building Fund and/or to the Recovery Ministry at the First Church of God
