- Velma M. McElfresh, 84, Kokomo, passed away at 12:58 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at her home. She was born September 24, 1930, in Kokomo, the daughter of Ralph Foreman and Edna (Harper) Foreman. On July 27, 1974, she married Leland J. McElfresh at Main Street Methodist Church, and he survives.
Velma attended Kokomo High School. She was a bookkeeper and cashier for Marsh Supermarkets in Kokomo, retiring on disability in 1985, after 35 years of service.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and playing card games with family and friends. She also enjoyed trying new recipes and took pride in her cookbook collection.
Surviving, in addition to her husband; one son, Timothy J. McElfresh of Freeport, IL; two daughters, Marcie Elaine Walker and Kimberly L. (Benjamin L.) Wisher, all of Kokomo; five grandchildren: Nicholas (Cari) Walker, Jennifer (Shaun) Arnold, Harry Wisher, Cody Hooper, and Mackenzie McElfresh; four great-grandchildren: Kaylee Walker, Mallory Arnold, Ben Arnold, and Dylan Wisher; one sister, Delores (Richard) Patterson, Kokomo. She was preceded in death by both parents and five sisters: Wanda Mouser, Carmen Vetter, Jean Stitt, Mary Catherine Foreman, and Patricia Foreman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with Rev. Fr. Michael McKinley, the celebrant. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at St. Patrick Catholic Church
