Michael D. "Mike" Finnegan, age 69, New Castle resident, passed away Wednesday November 1, 2017 at his residence. he was born July 31, 1948 in New Castle, a Son of Howard Patrick and Mary Imogene Rohrer Finnegan.
He was a lifelong New Castle resident and a graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, where he participated in football and track.
He was an Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War, having served one tour of duty in Viet Nam. He was a recipient of several military awards and recognitions. He was a lifetime member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS. He was a member of the New Castle Elks Lodge, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler. He loved family activities and will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker. He enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for his family on holidays and Sundays.
He loved fishing and water skiing. Mike traveled to Canada fishing for the past 50 years in a row. His first trip was with his Father. He had enjoyed being a Big Brother with Big Brothers and Sisters of Henry County. Mike was a Counselor for many years at Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie, and Green Hills Memorial Gardens in New Castle.
Left to cherish his loving memory include; his Wife, Helen Bales Finnegan whom he married Oct. 15, 1987, one Daughter Molli Finnegan (Fiance' Brian Engle) of New Castle, three Sons; Mark McKinney of New Castle, IN., Jon McKinney (Wife Kathy) of New Castle, IN., Leon Cox of New Castle, nine Grandchildren; David, Allen, Kate, Claire, Dalton, Parker, Kyler, Cooper, Kyla, four Great Grandchildren, two Sisters; Karen Constant (Husband Paul) of Muncie, IN., Sharon Bertram (Husband Bill) of New Castle, In., several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by: his Parents, Step-Father John Chamberlin, his Auntie, Edna Casey, two Nieces: Betsy and Kimberly.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday November 4, 2017 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services in New Castle.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday November 4, 2017 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Palmer officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Memory Garden at a later date. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army, V.F. W. and American Legion.
