Harry Berglan, Jr., 86, Peru passed away at 3:45 P.M., Sunday, March 1, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital with his family at his side. He was born December 21, 1928 to Harry and Freda (Speicher) Berglan in Wabash County. He graduated from Converse High School in 1947 and married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Gene (Kelsey) Berglan on May 1, 1948 who stayed by his side throughout their 66 ½ years of marriage.
He was the proud father of two sons, James Alan Berglan (Lavita), Thomas Berglan (Karen). He was a fun-loving grandfather to Kelley Simmons (David) Amboy, Heath Berglan (Linda) Lafayette, Laura Berglan (Ben Davis) Tuscon, Arizona, and Matthew Berglan (Jessica) Peru. He was blessed with great-grandchildren, Alaina and Aubrey Simmons, Christopher and Lucas Berglan and Cullin Davis. Also surviving are his brother, Merval Berglan Peru, sister Jane Ann Troyer (George) Kokomo, sisters-in-law Onda Berglan Stroup, Swayzee, Arlene Stair (Raymond) Carmel, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Freda Berglan; sister Marlee Kay Berglan and a brother Harold Berglan.
Harry was a farmer all his life. He had a passion for camping, collecting antique cars and trucks, and in younger years, riding motorcycles. He loved wintering in Bradenton, Florida for several years.
A service celebrating the life of Harry Berglan, Jr. will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 North Main, Amboy, with Pastor Dwight Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday at the funeral home.
