      Porter passed away on September 28, 2009. Gordon was born on November 8, 1932, the son of Robert Clifton and Inice Hogan Porter, on the McCampbell Ranch in Gregory, Texas. He attended school in Gregory and Ingleside, and graduated from Texas A & M College in, College Station, with a B.S. degree in Agronomy in 1954. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher in the Coastal Bend and was very active with agricultural organizations, serving on several Boards of Directors. Gordon was an Army veteran of Counter Intelligence. He was elected to the office of San Patricio County Commissioner, Precinct 4, retired in 2002 after sixteen years of service.
      Gordon is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sharon Kay Garrett Porter, and a sister, Genevieve 'Genna' Davenport. He is also survived by two daughters, Peri (Jay) Mehrens and Wynne (Rob) Shown, two sons, Craig Winkle, and Phillip Thomas, and five grandchildren, Randi (Jason) Coil, Bret Barnes, Amber Schexnider, and Taylor and Haley Shown. He is also survived by many dear friends.
      Gordon was a 'people person', lived life every day with a positive attitude, and really appreciated his friends and family, to whom he was totally loyal. He was a very sweet man.
      Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009 from 12:00 to 9:00 pm with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home with private family interment to be held at a later time. Honorary pallbearers are Gordon's former employees who worked for him for 16 years as he served as County Commissioner. They are Ricky Vasquez, Rudy Vasquez, Harold Campbell, Buddy Lindley, Charlie Campbell and Stewart Wilson.
