Born and raised in Throckmorton County, Texas, Billy Dale was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing for small-mouth bass on the Buffalo River as well as large-mouth bass in Lake Throckmorton, and for that matter any lakes, ponds and streams that he could find. He enjoyed dove hunting with his brother, nephews, nieces, kids and grandkids in Throckmorton County. He taught many of them to hunt and fish with great love and patience. Bill loved to read and collect books. His collections include religious study guides and commentaries, Louis Lamoure books and many others. He was a Mavericks, Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan, even when they weren't winning.
Bill was raised on a farm in Throckmorton County with his brother, Nolen Gale. When his father passed away Bill took over the family farm to help support his mother, Lillie Mae Massey. A few years later he met and married Norma Gail Sims from Duncan, Oklahoma. Bill and Norma lived in Arlington, Texas where Bill worked for General Motors and they added five children to their family: Tim, Pam, Jeff, Jana and Mark. The family moved to Grandview, Texas in 1972 where Bill coached the boys little league baseball teams and the family was involved in the school and community.
In 1988 Bill retired from General Motors and spent his latter years camping, studying the gospel and with his beloved wife, Norma. They collected antiques, books, fishing lures and, mainly, spent time with their nine grandchildren.
