      October 18, 2011 - December 5, 2017
Jayden Anthony McCuistion was born on October 18, 2011 in Welden Germany and entered into eternal life on December 5, 2017 in Madera, California.
Jayden was a 6-year-old full of life. He attended Kindergarten at Sundale Elementary in Tulare, California where you could always spot him running across the playground with a big smile on his face. He took pride in doing well in school and receiving praise from his teachers and school staff. Jayden was the younger of two sons. Jayden's boyish personality and love for superheros never left a dull moment to be had. His favorite play time was spent dressing up like superheros with his brother. Their bond was strong and their love for each other was radiant. Playing with his cousins, exploring the outdoors, and going on walks were a few of the activities Jayden loved doing. Jayden's humble heart was loving, giving and always thoughtful of others. He would give his toys and clothes to other children whom he thought needed them more than him. Jayden was definitely a one of a kind. Although his time here was cut short, his vivacious personality and bright smile will always be remembered. "We will always love you Mr. Squeeky."
Jayden was survived by his mother Kimberly Parriera, his father John McCuistion, his brother Jovani McCuistion many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jayden also has two step parents Nicholas Parriera and Brenna Goldsbury.

Kidergartner dies after collision outside Sundale Elementary
It was a rainy Monday morning as John McCuistion drove his two young sons to Tulare's Sundale Elementary.

Jayden McCuistion, 6, was a "vivacious" kindergartner who could brighten anyone's day, family said. Sitting beside Jayden was his older brother and best friend, Jovani McCuistion, a second-grader at Sundale.

The sun was rising over the Sierras as the family made their way to school.

As McCuistion turned onto Avenue 240 (Prosperity Avenue) in his GMC Terrain, his life was forever changed. Just after 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 27, a 40-year-old woman heading south on Road 140 (Lovers Lane) broadsided the GMC.

The family says the woman didn't have her headlights on and was speeding — they estimated 75 mph.

California Highway Patrol officers said it would be impossible to tell if the woman's headlights were on because of damage to the vehicle.

CHP officer Michael McWain said McCuistion didn't notice the minivan and didn't have the right-of-way. The collision sent the McCuistion family spinning toward a nearby canal. The SUV overturned and came to rest on its roof in the canal.

The impact caused significant damage to the passenger side of the GMC, where Jayden was seated.

His brother and father suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Jayden suffered major head trauma and was rushed to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. He was placed on life support and transferred to Valley Children's Hospital.

      Jayden died on Dec. 5.

"This is a tragic accident," McWain said. "The age and time of year make it that much harder."

The family placed crosses, balloons and candles in remembrance of Jayden across from the elementary school.

"He was a superhero," said Chris Sanders, Jayden's uncle. "He always walked around with a smile on his face."

The family was asked by Sundale officials to remove the memorial on Monday because the students were upset by the loss and some believed the boy had been buried where the memorial had been set up.

The kindergarten playground faces the canal.

"A lot of the kids loved Jayden," Sanders said. "He would always cheer you up. That's the kind of kid he was."

Sundale Superintendent Terri Rufert said she has to look out for the Sundale students and the McCuistion family. While she asked the family to remove the cross and balloons, she gave them options of planting a tree on campus or setting up a plaque near the intersection.

She also helped organize donations, money and support for the family as they grieve and prepare for Jayden's memorial service.

Jayden's death is a stark reminder of the how dangerous the intersection in front of Sundale is.

Sanders said there have been a number of collisions near the school and nothing has been done about it.

Lee Matheson lives across the street and has replaced his fence three times this year because of drivers plowing through his yard. He witnessed three students hit earlier this year.

Since 2009, McWain said, there have been 13 traffic collisions near the school resulting in two fatalities, including Jayden's. More than 70 percent of those resulted in injuries.

On Wednesday, Tulare County road workers were surveying the intersection and are considering placing a turn pocket into the school. Workers said it was a preliminary step to fixing the intersection.

"It's not a process that happens overnight," McWain said. "But it's very positive they are surveying that intersection."

Officers regularly patrol the school zone as motorist tend to speed in the area, McWain said.

"In my 20 years, we've had numerous complaints made (about this intersection)," McWain said. "Many are parents and teachers trying to get to school on time."

The CHP has set up a radar trailer on Prosperity and have increased patrol as a result of Jayden's death.

Sanders said the family is trying to put the pieces together, finding ways to memorialize Jayden. Several family members have added to the memorial outside the school and they are planning a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Sundale, located at 13990 E. Prosperity Ave.

They've encouraged the community to attend and show support for Jayden.

"He brightened a room up," Sanders said. "He was amazing."
