He was a member of the American Legion Post 173 in Holiday. He was originally from Taylor, Michigan. Brian is preceded in death by his father, Richard Ellis Shopshear; his sister, Richelle T. Shopshear; and his brother, A. Dennis Shopshear. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Christine Anders Shopshear; his mother, Laura L. Shopshear; siblings, Laura A. (Philip) Cason, Richard G. Shopshear, Garry E. (Jenifer) Shopshear, Christopher E. (Laura) Shopshear, Mark J. (Jane) Shopshear, and Jacqueline L. Shopshear; children, Brynn (Jeff) Dudlets, Brian (Christine) Shopshear II, Katelyn (Dan) Jackson, Danny (Marcia) Bumgarner, Benjamin (Robbi) Bumgarner, James, Spencer, Daniel; grandchildren, Annabella, Jeffrey, Delaney, Alyssa, Kirsten, Mya, Khloee. Memorial Service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on October 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.

Survivors include her husband, James Schafer; mother, Leslie McCuiston; daughter, Maci Schafer; and sister, Susie Fay (Ray) Price; all of Dayton; brother, Bertram (Kristy) McCusiton IV, of Evensville; aunts, Susie Johnston, of Graysville, Teri Hartman, of Spring City, and Andrea McCusiton, Janine Shopshear, Janice McCuiston, Tottie McCusiton, Lori McCuiston and Donna McCuistion, all of Michigan; uncles, Carl (Betty) McCuiston; Dan (Melissa) McCuiston, and Eric (Kim) McCuiston, all of Michigan; paternal grandfather, Bertram McCuiston Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Bert Beria officiating.  Burial will be at Cove Cemetery.
