      Mrs. Ruth Smith, 77, of Alabam, Ark., died Oct. 30, 1988, at the Huntsville Memorial Hospital. She was born July 26, 1911, at Huntsville, the daughter of William "Bill" and Effie Sue Howard Cain. She was a retired beauty operator and was the former owner of the Peoples Beauty Shop in Huntsville for many years. She was the widow of Bill Smith, who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1982.
      Survivors include one son, Van Smith of the home; one brother, Howard Cain of Huntsville; three sisters, Mrs. Strange Wiggins and Mrs. Only Reed, both of Huntsville, and Mrs. Dorthiea Murphy of Fullerton, Calif.; and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Paula Smith of Huntsville, Mrs. Mary Drake of Brea, Calif., and Mrs. Bonnie Harris of Santa Ana, Calif.
      Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy I. Cain officiating. Interment was in the Alabam Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
      Pallbearers were James Reed, Johnny Reed, Rick McLoud, Sam Owens, Rocky Cain and Billy Wayne Berry. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Whiteley and Euel Thompson.
