      Eugene Drake, 83, of Huntsville died April 2, 2009, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born Feb. 28, 1926, at Drakes Creek to Millard and Grady Duncan Drake.
      He was a retired custodian for the Huntsville Community Center and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Drakes Creek Regular Baptist Church.
      He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Glenn Drake.
      Survivors include his wife, Betty Kellar Drake of the home; a daughter, Regina Swager and husband Terry of Angola, Ind.; a stepson, Danny Ritch of Huntsville; a stepdaughter, Shrline Harmon and husband Tom of Wesley; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.
      Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville with the Revs. Gary Faulkner and Jim Spurlock officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.brashearsfuneralhome.net.
      Burial will be in Drakes Creek Cemetery.
