Richard E. "Dick" Howell, 88, Greentown, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his residence. He was born May 16, 1924, in Greentown to Clifton and Elba (Cranor) Howell. He was married Sept. 18, 1949, in the bride's home to Josephine "Jo" (McQuiston) Howell, and she survives.
Mr. Howell had been a farmer all his life and had operated Howell Motors for over 40 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Greentown High School. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and former member of the board of directors of the Sate Bank of Greentown. He was devoted to his church, family and work.
Survivors are his wife, Josephine "Jo" Howell; three sons, Steve J. (Jeanne) Howell, Lebanon, Stan J. Howell, Indianapolis, Robert M. "Bob" (Jill) Howell, Greentown; six grandchildren, Alesa (Adam) Brown, Russ Howell, Alex Howell, Adelle Howell, Allison (Don) Brewster and Patrick Howell; five great-grandchildren, Lucas, Ellery and Gabriel Brown, Annabelle and Brooklyn Brewster; one brother, George (Carolyn) Howell; and sisters-in-law, Jackie Howell and Jacque Ladd.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Amayun, Dr. Ridgeway, Kim Clouser and Homestead in the care of their father and grandfather.. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill Howell and Tom Howell.. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene, 2434 S. Washington St., with Pastor David Leeder officiating.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown, following the service. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene building fund. Arrangements are being handled by Hasler and Stout Funeral Home, Greentown.
