Ruth McCormick McQuiston, 94, affectionately called “Nana” by her family, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016, in Florida. She lived in Seminole, Fla., and was formerly of Marion Center and Home.
The daughter of the late Paul and Mary Filer McCormick, she was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Marion Center.
Mrs. McQuiston earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State Teachers College, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She retired from Marion Center Area High School, where she taught home economics, Latin and junior business training. In 1970, she and her family moved to Florida. Mrs. McQuiston was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Largo, Fla., and a former member of the Presbyterian Church of Marion in Marion Center. She was an avid reader, always looking for new books to add to her large collection. Mrs. McQuiston also loved good conversation, and enjoyed telling often humorous stories about the past.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan McQuiston-Long; her granddaughter, Katie Long; and two great-grandchildren, Sean and Madeline, all of Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. Doyle McQuiston; her son, Joseph McQuiston; and her brother, William McCormick.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Marion Center Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Chris Enoch officiating.
