Jerry Lee McQuiston
GALVESTON — Jerry Lee McQuiston Sr., 77, Galveston, was welcomed into the arms of his savior at 6:40 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, after fighting a long, hard battle with Alzheimer’s.
Jerry was born in Kokomo April 15, 1935, to Everett and Hazel (Fye) McQuiston. It was on Jan. 8, 1953, that Jerry married his long time sweetheart, Gloria Brown. They just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
On Jerry’s 18th birthday, he applied for a job at Delco Radio and was hired immediately. He started as a stock boy, then utility man, and then became supervisor. He enjoyed the fellowship with his workers and hearing of their children’s games and achievements. After 38½ years Jerry retired from Delco Radio at the age 56.
Being in good health Jerry and Gloria were able to take several cruises and some overseas tours. One in particular was the trip to the Holy Lands. What a joy this was to walk where Jesus walked. Jerry was very active in church work. He was Sunday-school superintendent, deacon, treasurer, youth leader, and on the Primetimers committee of Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria, a son Jerry Jr. (Cathy) McQuiston, his daughter Tammy (Jeff) Keith, his grandchildren; Jesse (Liz) McQuiston and children, Elle and Lucy; Jared (Amy) McQuiston and children Calla and Noah; Tyler (Kelsey) McQuiston and children Max and Cooper; Jonathan (Kayla) Keith, Joshua Keith and Jennifer Keith. Son Jerry and all of the grandchildren were very active in sports which Jerry and Gloria followed faithfully, until his health failed. He also loved the fact the entire family knows the Lord and felt God has blessed us beyond belief. Jerry is also survived by a half-sister, Mary Davis and several nieces and nephews, with a special thanks to Rick Foust who faithfully kept in touch with Jerry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ernest McQuiston, a sister Delena Foust, and two half-brothers, Gilbert and Virgil McQuiston.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 South Webster St. Services will follow at 1 p.m. also at the Mortuary with Pastor Keith Treadway and Pastor William Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in Galveston Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to his church, Bible Baptist Church, 2635 South Dixon Rd. Kokomo, IN 46902. You are invited to read Jerry’s obituary online at www.ellersmortuary.com where you may sign the guestbook, or share a personal message with the family.
