      I. K. Purvis Dies at 80
      Irvin Kersh Purvis, 80, of 1909-I N. Centennial St., a former resident of Archdale, died Monday at 11 p.m. at his home. He had been in declining health for several months.
      Mr. Purvis was born in Smith County Aug. 1, 1898, a son of James Buchannon Purvis & Sallie Terry Purvis. A resident of High Point for 55 years, he was married May 20, 1930 to Lalah Hassell. He attended Kines Business College in Jackson, Miss., and was employed for many years with Peerless Plywood Co., of High Point and alter was a supervisor at Tomlinson's of High Point, retiring 16 years ago. After his retirement, he was associated with the Alderman Co. for a number of years. He was a charter member of the Archdale Lions Club, a member of Woodmen of the World, Piedmont Camp 62 and a member of the Piedmont Men's Camellia Club. He owned Purvis Camellia and Azalea Nursery in Archdale. He was a member of the Archdale United Methodist Church, the Men's Bible Class, the Methodist Men and an honorary member of the administrative board.
      Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lalah H. Purvis of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Nancy) Blair of 140 Frazier St., Archdale, and Mrs. Charles (Carol) Wallace of 1602 County Club Dr., Three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Ina Holt of Brunson, S.C.; and one brother, Gilbert Purvis of Des Arc, Ark.
      Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sechrest Chapel by the Rev. Cliff Summey and the Rev. J. A. Grout. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will remain at Sechrest Funeral Home, and the family will be there tonight at 7 to 9.
      Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class of Archdale United Methodist Church. They are requested to meet at Sechrest Chapel at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday. [ The High Point Enterprise, 21 November 1978, Page 2B.]
