Harold Porter also went by the name of Harold McCuistion becaused he was raised by step father Oscar Ward McCuiston
Harold was a World War II veteran.
He married his first wife, Evelyn Miller, on August 4, 1945 in Union County.
He married his second wife, Leah H. Emory, on September 24, 1954 in Union County.
He married his third wife, Mildren E.Odorizz, on March 30, 1959 in Union County.
He married his fourth wife, Phyllis Joan Winger.
He was the son of William T. Porter and Lura Smithson.
He is survived by his wife of Clayton, NM and two sons, Bob McEwen, Griggs, OK and Don McEwen, Stillwater, OK; mother, Lura Graves Labrier, Clayton, NM; 4 sisters: Betty Pepper, Clayton, NM; Peggy Bolivar, Burbank, CA; Marie McNeil, Torrance, CA; Ann Armijo, Las Vegas, NM; and his brother, Bob Graves, Raton, NM
The Union County book 1980 on the McCuistons has Oscar Ward McCuiston Born Oct 9, 1848 in Ray County Missouri, left Missouri in 1871 and ended up in a cattle drive to New Mexico in 1873. Had a ranch and owned a stable yard in Raton. He and his business partner Mr Marcey were instrumental in getting the Marcey-McCuistion Institute, the first school building in the city, in 1885. Oscar was elected sheriff and tax collector of Colfax county. He then came to the Dry Cimarron River area and developed irrigation and raised alfalfa.
He married Lura (Smithson) Porter June 15, 1924. She had a son, Harold, who he raised as his own. Oscar and Lura had one daughter, Betty, who now resides on part of the original ranch with her husband, J. W. Pepper.
Oscar continued to live on the ranch until his death on Feb 5, 1938 and the age of 89 and was laid to rest in the Fairmont Cemetery in Raton, N.M. after a very brief illness.
