Contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S.E. Eighth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526; or to VNA Hospice of Southern California, 150 W. First St., Suite 270, Claremont, CA 91711; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Givens was born May 3, 1914, in Iola, Kan. She graduated as valedictorian in 1933 and attended business school in Minneapolis. In 1936, she married Dean Givens, who died in 1994. They moved their family to San Diego due to her husband's service in the Navy and his career. In the 1950s, they opened and managed music and mosaic retail businesses.
In the early 1970s, they moved to O'Brien, where they owned and operated the Madrone Motel, which included a gift shop and on-site photographer. Later, they moved to Kerby, where her husband continued his photo studio and she volunteered at the history museum.
They moved to Grants Pass in 1989. After suffering several heart attacks, she moved to Southern California two years ago.
She was an accomplished painter and writer. She enjoyed reading, studying her Bible, knitting, making afghans, and playing cards with her family and friends. She also enjoyed her plants and flowers and sharing slips of her plants with her friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Givens Vogt of Nevada City, Calif.; a son, Terry Givens of Claremont, Calif.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
