Theressa Bucy Thompson, 105, of Conway, Ark., formerly of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003.
Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Theressa Bucy Thompson went home to be with her family and Savior on Sept. 3. Mrs. Thompson was born in Henry County, Tenn., on Aug. 30, 1898. She had just celebrated her 105th birthday with family and friends in Conway.
Theressa and her family moved to Odell in 1901. She attended a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade and finished at Clarendon Junior College. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1921, and taught typing at Amarillo High School for three and a half years until she married O.D. Thompson. Mr. Thompson, a graduate of University of Texas School of Law, later became a district attorney in Amarillo, and later moved to private practice.
Mrs. Thompson was an active member of Polk Street Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and member of Amarillo Garden Club, who loved sharing her produce and beautiful flowers with others.
Mrs. Thompson, with her excellent culinary skills was also responsible for teaching three future generations to be good cooks. Theressa Thompson was a devoted servant and caregiver, who cared for her elderly mother, aunt, mother-in-law, and sister, Hilda, until they died, while still tending to her own young family.
She lived in Amarillo until 1996, when after the deaths of her son, O.D. Thompson Jr. in 1993 and daughter, Tresa June in 1996, she moved to Conway, Ark., and was cared for by her eldest grandson, Dr. Tod Ghormley, his family and the loving staff of Heritage Center Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son; her daughter; her father, George Washington Bucy; her mother, Ida Bell Byrn Bucy; a sister, Hilda; and a brother, Seewald.
Survivors include six grandchildren, Sue Thompson Walker and husband, Terry, of Odessa, Jana Ghormley Boss of Allen, Dr. Tod Ghormley and wife, Mimi, of Conway, Christopher Paul Thompson and wife, Tamarah, of West Des Moines, Iowa., Chris Ghormley and wife, Terry, of Santa Maria, Calif., and Jason Grant Ghormley and wife, Mary Ann, of Plano; 11 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Laveta Thompson of Bartlesville, Okla.
The family suggests memorials be to "Christ for All Nations," P. O. Box 590588, Orlando, FL 32859-9927, or a favorite charity.
