Fredrick Lord McQuiston, 84, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, in Show Low. He was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Taft, Calif. to Armel Ford McQuiston and Janet Maud Miller McQuiston.
As a young man Fred worked in many fields such as leveling ground, cutting timber and ranching in Oregon. He lived in California, Oregon and Alaska and then moved to Arizona in 1971. Fred served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948 and in the Navy Reserves from 1950-1952. He married Eunice Halsted Ryan Dec. 20, 1991, in Snowflake. Fred retired from Stone Container Corporation in 1992, where he worked as an instrument technician as a supervisor. After retirement Fred and Eunice enjoyed traveling around the United States for several years. Fred was an avid fisherman who especially loved fishing at Lake Powell. Later in life he enjoyed “rock hounding.” His favorite rocks were Zebra Agates.
Fred is survived by his wife, Eunice of Snowflake; two stepsons: Danny (Bonnie) and Wally Heubel; and many friends and “rock hound” buddies.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth McQuiston and parents: Armel & Janet McQuiston.
No services are scheduled at this time. A celebration of his life will be held later this summer on Escudilla Mountain, east of Springerville.
