Flora Elizabeth (Lee) McChristian, 83, died peacefully in Southlake, Texas from natural causes on March 12, 2025.
Born in Waldron, Arkansas on December 28, 1941, Flora, a long-time resident of Mena, graduated from Mena High School in 1959 and attended Hendrix College. She worked for Renovo Manufacturing in Mena until she married Bill McChristian on March 16, 1968. She spent many years as a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church as a youth leader for United Methodist Youth and served as the Director of Christian Education. From 1979 to 1985, she worked as the Marketing Director at First National Bank and was then the proud owner and operator of Ye Olde Fabric Shoppe with her mother Louise Lee. She retired from the fabric store in the early 90s.
Flora remained a long-standing member and heavily involved member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on several committees and attended the Homebuilders Sunday School Class. Her service to the church was close to her heart throughout her life, acting as Editor of the church newsletter and coordinator for funeral meals for bereaved families for many years.
Flora was also a highly visible member of the Mena community as a Justice of the Peace, a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board, the Board of Directors for Rich Mountain Community College, and past president of the Forty Year Club. She was also highly involved in planning the annual Lum & Abner Days Festival.
In addition to these many activities, Flora, along with husband Bill, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and dedicating herself to always helping others. She was a loving wife and mother, a gifted artist, and always ready to entertain with laughter and fun.
Flora is preceded in death by her husband, Bill McChristian, her parents, Chester "Jack" Lee and Cora Louise Lee, her sister, Kay Clark, her brothers-in-law, James Curtis McChristian, Jr. and Dan McCutchen, one niece, Sylvia Kacos, one nephew, Quentin McCutchen, and one granddaughter, Cassondra Riddle.
She is survived by her two daughters, Liz (Steve) Kennedy, of Bedford, Texas, Laura (Don) Riddle of Texarkana, Arkansas, and her sisters-in-law, Carolyn McChristian of Cleveland, Tennessee and Virginia "Ginger" McCutchen of Fort Smith. She is also survived by four nieces, six grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Cremation services have been provided by SimpleCremation.org in Fort Worth, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church in Mena. Final interment of remains for family will take place at Pilot Prairie Cemetery in Waldron, Arkansas.
