Billie Earl McChristian, 87, died peacefully in his home from natural causes on October 17, 2024. Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on June 18, 1937, Bill graduated from Mansfield High School in 1955 and attended Fort Smith Junior College. He worked for Fentress Funeral Home in Fort Smith and then went on to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 45 years. He joined the Arkansas Air National Guard in 1961, serving as a member of the 188th Tactical Fighter Squadron, the "Flying Razorbacks", at Ebbing Air Force Base. He retired from the ANG as a Master Sergeant after 42 years. Officially joining the church in 1954, Bill was a long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church in Mena, serving on several committees, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday School for the Homebuilders Class. In 1980, Bill was elected to the Mena School Board and served for 25 years, acting as its president for many years. Bill was also a member of the York Rite Chapter Dallas Masonic Lodge #128 of Mena, earning the designation of Knights Templar. In addition to these many activities, Bill enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, and dedicating himself to helping others. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, James Curtis McChristian and Thurza Shreve McChristian, his brother, James Curtis McChristian, Jr., one sister-in-law, Kay Clark, one niece, Sylvia Kacos, one nephew, Quentin McCutchen, and one granddaughter, Cassondra Riddle. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Flora Lee McChristian, of Mena, two daughters, Liz (Steve) Kennedy, of Bedford, Texas, Laura (Don) Riddle of Texarkana, Arkansas, and his sister, Virginia "Ginger" McCutchen of Fort Smith. He is also survived by four nieces, six grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Cremation services have been provided by Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. As per Bill's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Final interment of remains will take place at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to any of the following in Bill's name: Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, Mena Public Schools, Dallas Lodge #128, or any veterans' support organization.
