Sister Thea McQuistion, 95, fulfilled her life’s journey on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Sister Thea (Marion) McQuistion was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on April 23, 1927, the second of three children of Theodore and Clara Byrne McQuistion. She attended schools in Brilliant, OH, Baltimore, MD, and graduated from Mingo Junction High School in 1945. She earned a B.A from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, WI, and received her M.A. in School Administration in 1972 from Catholic University in Washington, DC. In 1946, she entered the community of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in Manitowoc, WI. After final profession of vows, she dedicated her life to teaching and was assigned teaching positions at St. Philip's School in Green Bay, WI, St. Mary's in Algoma, WI, Wellston, OH, and Whitelaw, WI. She then held principal positions at Whitelaw, WI, Holy Innocents, Manitowoc, WI, St. Bernadette in Appleton, WI, and Annunciation Parish in Green Bay, WI. In 1980, she left the Franciscan Order in Manitowoc, and after three years of prayer and discernment, became one of the original members of A New Genesis Community, a diocesan religious group founded through the support of Bishop Wycislo then bishop of the Green Bay Diocese. In the summer of 1985, Sister Thea was hired by the Green Bay Diocese as Education Personnel Consultant, a position she held for twelve years, retiring at age 70. Her love for teaching, however, was still strong, so in the fall of that year, she was hired by the College of Menominee Nation as a tutor and later as a math teacher for the next nine years. Many of her former students still speak highly of her teaching abilities and caring personality. Sister Thea also loved sports (was a Cleveland Indians baseball fan), and golfing with her brother, nephews, and friends. Sister Thea is preceded in death by her parents, her sister (Marjorie) and brother- in-law (Joe Schiffiman), her brother (Adrian) and sister-in law (Philomena McQuistion), and nephew Mario Schiffiman and nephew- in-law, Richard Gray. She is survived by 6 nieces, 3 nephews, 18 grandnieces and grandnephews, and a godchild, Laura Norton. She is also survived by the members of her community, A New Genesis, and two longtime friends, Diann Wimmer and Marge Schnese. Visitation will be at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St, Monday, September 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45 a.m. Burial and Rite of Committal will be at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
