McCuistion
Hi David,
Thank you so much for reaching out to me and forwarding the great attachments. The 6
attachments will take a while to read, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to share our
greater family connections. The first thing is noticed was that your secretary is BJ McCuistion ...
I have communicated with him in the past. I have also seen the brilliant work of Gloria
McCuistion on Ancestry.com. My father gave me a copy of Leona Bean's thick book, which has
been a delightful resource (as with all research, I have found some mistakes in her tireless work)
. Genealogy can be tricky.
My biological father is Alvin Denton Thurman, born 7 Aug 1931 in Fresno, Fresno County,
California (he was an only child and is still living). My father's mother was Opal Irene
McCuistion, born 29 Sep 1911 in Dodge, Delaware County, Oklahoma and died 10 Jan 1966 in
Sacramento, Sacramento County, California. My father's father was John Denton "Dent"
Thurman, born 5 Mar 1908 in Washington County, Arkansas, and died 14 Jun 1986 in
Sacramento, Sacramento, California.
Alvin Denton Thurman married my mother Ruth Adeline Terrell (born 8 Feb 1931 in Oroville,
Butte County, California and died 22 Jan 2007 in Parker, Douglas County, Colorado) 19 Jul
1952 in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada. I was born Myra Christine Thurman 28 Nov 1951
Sacramento, Sacramento County, California (clearly born before they were married - they did
not marry until my sister was conceived) Al and Ruth divorced 3 Jan 1955. Ruth married third
Paschal Eugene "Gene" Rainwater (born 17 Jun 1927 in Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas [still
living]) 2 Jun 1962 in Virginia City, Storey County, Nevada. I was adopted by Gene Rainwater
when I was about 11 years old (about 1962), and changed by name to Helen Christine Rainwater
... all birth records show Gene Rainwater as my father. I know it is confusing, but there you
go. My father (Al), my sister, and I have all contributed DNA to Ancestry.com.
It would be an honor for our branch of the family tree to be included in the Clan Uisdean, USA
records.
Regards,
Christine

John Denton "Dent" Thurman
Birth: Mar. 5, 1908
Washington County
Arkansas, USA
Death: Jun. 14, 1986
Sacramento
Sacramento County
California, USA
John Denton "Dent" Thurman is the son of John D. "Doc" and Lou Emma (Phelan) Thurman. "Doc" had no middle name, only the middle initial D; Was known as "Doc", perhaps because he doctored cattle, horses and hogs; "Doc" had blue eyes and auburn hair.
Full siblings were: 1) Maude Law Thurman 1905-1929, 2) Audie Myrea Thurman 1906-1908, 3)James Clarence Thurman 1909-2007, 4) Truman Thurman 1914-1983, & 5) Cleo Clifton Thurman 1915-2007.
Half siblings were: Clifford Rexford Thurman 1937-2004, 2) Clint Arthur Thurman 1938-2008, 3), Anna Belle Thurman 1940-, 4) Raymond D Thurman 1941-, 5) Billie Jack Thurman 1942-2003, & 6) Richard Lee Thurman 1945-
John Denton "Dent" Thurman married first Opal Irene McCuistion about 1930. Together they had one child: Alvin Denton "Al" Thurman (1931- , born in Fresno).
John Denton "Dent" Thurman married second Cleo Elizabeth Fields 1902-1966 on 5 Mar 1966 in Nevada.
The Thurman family had nicknames for everyone. John Denton Thurman was called "Dent". Dent grew up on a farm in Arkansas where his family raised horses, cattle, hogs, and fields of corn to feed the animals. This was not the lifestyle that Dent wanted as an adult, so he told his father he was going to leave. His father was so angry that he pulled out a pistol and shot him in the leg. The injury was not life-threatening, was not reported, and quickly became a family legend. Dent married Opal Irene McCuistion and moved to Fresno, California, about 1931, where his first and only child (Alvin Denton Thurman) was born.

I have a copy of Leona Bean McQuiston's "The McCuiston, McCuiston, and McQuesten Families, 1620-1937". Also have a copy of The Mccuistion Family News' "The new 1998 Edition of The Nccuistion: Ancestors, Desacendants, and Missing Links".
However! I'm not able to find any link for my grandmother: Opal Irene McCuistion. Her father was Aussie Lee McCuistion and he married Effie Jane Richey. They had eight children:
